Frequently asked questions

Brewing & Preparation

How do I brew Fly Chai on the stove?

Combine equal parts water and milk in a saucepan with Fly Chai and Gud. Bring to a rolling boil, simmer for 3–5 minutes to extract the full spice oils, and strain directly into your cup. Check out our full How to Brew Guide for exact ratios.

Can I brew Fly Chai without a saucepan/stove?

While traditional stove-top simmering delivers the richest depth and texture, you can steep our tea in hot water using an infuser or French press for 5 minutes, then stir in warm milk and Gud.

What milk works best with Fly Chai blends?

Whole dairy milk provides the most traditional creamy texture. For plant-based options, barista-edition oat milk or full-fat coconut milk pairs best with our bold spices without separating during the boil.

Product & Ingredients

What makes Fly Chai different from coffee-shop chai?

Coffee shops typically use pre-made liquid syrups or powdered concentrates packed with refined sugar and synthetic extracts. Fly Chai uses whole Assam black tea leaves, crushed spices, and natural Gud, brewed fresh for authentic flavor. Read more on our Chai vs. Coffee-Shop Chai page.

What is Gud, and why do you use it as a sweetener?

Gud (jaggery) is an unrefined, traditional South Asian sugar made from pure sugarcane juice. It retains natural minerals and molasses, giving our chai a rich caramel undertone that rounds out ginger heat and cardamom without harsh sweetness. Learn more on our What is Gud? page.

Is Fly Chai caffeine-free or gluten-free?

All of our tea and spice blends are naturally gluten-free. Because our blends feature robust Assam black tea leaves, they contain natural caffeine—roughly half the caffeine of a standard cup of brewed coffee.
